Faculties
Teaching and research at UNS is organised into eight faculties.
Academic structure
Eight faculties. One academic community.
Each faculty brings together the departments that teach a field, from computing to Sharia and law. Students belong to one faculty and may take elective courses in another.
Faculties set their own curricula and examine their own students, under common university regulations.

Teaching
Taught in small groups, by the department.
Courses are delivered by lecturers of the department that owns the subject. Recorded lessons are followed by a weekly live session for questions and group work, so students are known by name.
- Lecturers hold weekly office hours
- Seminar groups for discussion and presentations
- A final-year project supervised within the department
Governance
How a faculty is run
Academic decisions are made by academics, at the level closest to the student.
Dean
Leads the faculty, chairs its board and answers to the Vice-Chancellor for academic standards.
Faculty board
Approves curricula, examination results and the award of certificates, diplomas and degrees.
Heads of department
Run each department day to day: allocating lecturers, timetabling courses and advising students.

Awards
Every award is approved by the faculty board.
Results are moderated by the department and confirmed by the faculty board before a certificate, diploma or degree is conferred at graduation.
